                                 "The Emerging Fourth Sector" -- Driven by interest in finding fresh approaches to address persistent social problems, social entrepreneurs are creating a new wave of hybrid, 'for-benefit' organizations.  These hybrids have a double-bottom-line orientation, seeking both to 'do good', like government and nonprofit organizations, and 'make money' from market-oriented transactions, like businesses.  Heerad Sabeti will discuss how many nonprofits and businesses are adopting hybrid features and forming an important new Fourth Sector of the economy.

As leaders, our job is to take advantage of this to create real change for the people we serve. That's why we must understand the process of creating change in our world using the tools that all of us have available to use: community, stories, and consistent action.

Drawing from in-depth research and direct experience partnering with nonprofits, foundations, businesses, governments, and coalitions across the country, Sara Brenner will discuss insights on what it takes to solve social problems at the magnitude they exist, helping us think about how we might transform our region into the thriving and equitable place we know it can be.
