About Dale A. Matthews, MD, FACP
Dr. Matthews practices and teaches general internal medicine in McLean, VA with an emphasis on individualized, patient-centered, and spiritually-sensitive treatment. He is a graduate of Princeton University (A.B. cum laude, Romance Languages,1976) and Duke University School of Medicine (MD, 1980). He completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine (Farmington, CT) and a fellowship in clinical epidemiology and research at the Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar Program at Yale University School of Medicine (New Haven, CT). He has taught internal medicine at Yale University, University of Connecticut, and Georgetown University. 
 
He is the author of “The Faith Factor: Proof of the Healing Power of Prayer” (Viking/Penguin, 1998), several  additional books and teaching videotapes, and over 60 scientific articles on doctor-patient communication, spirituality and health, and related topics. Dr. Matthews has received many awards including the George Morris Piersol Teaching and Research Scholarship from the American College of Physicians and a Humility Theology Award from the John Templeton Foundation. He has been named as a Washington, DC-Baltimore-Northern Virginia Super Doctor annually from 2011-13 and has received the Patients’ Choice Award annually from 2008-13.
 
He is happily married to Demetra K. Matthews and has two adult married children: Karen Matthews Goodman and Louis J. Matthews. He enjoys golf, baseball, piano, ballroom dancing, travel, photography, and studying and teaching the Bible.
